Checking and Savings Accounts

  • For deposit accounts (Consumer Checking, Savings, Money Market and Certificate of Deposit accounts) the following documents are available:

    • 1099-INT: Interest Income earned ($10 or more per year, or if tax dollars are withheld)
    • 1099-MISC: Other nonemployee income ($600 or more per year)
  • An email and/or text message will be sent to the address(es) you specify, and a message will be sent to your online Message Center each time you have a new or corrected tax document available for viewing.

  • The only contact information provided for online tax documents is the email address or mobile number for the alert you receive when a document is available.

To update your alert information, go to Customer Service at the top of the page, select My Alerts, and then select Account Alerts. Look for the alert ”Tax Document is Available” and click the Edit link by that alert.

  • Your tax documents will be available online for up to 7 years from the time you go paperless for tax documents. If you need a document older than 7 years you can order a paper copy.
  • To receive online tax documents for any year you need to have your eligible accounts enrolled for them by 11:59 pm CT on December 31 of that year (or by the last business day of the year if December 31 falls on a weekend). Your tax documents will be available no later than January 31 of the following year.
  • Once an account is signed up, your tax documents will be available electronically for each year you receive a reportable payment, unless one of the following occurs:

    • You close your account.
    • You request that we stop sending you online tax documents.
    • The email address you provided for us to alert you of an online document is no longer valid. In this case you'll stop receiving online tax documents, you’ll receive a letter by U.S. mail notifying you that they’ve been stopped, and we’ll send you paper documents for all impacted accounts.
  • Online tax documents are available for Consumer Checking, Savings, Money Market and Certificate of Deposit accounts, excluding retirement accounts. Business accounts are not eligible. Ineligible accounts will continue to receive paper 1099s.
  • Yes. Choosing electronic delivery for your joint ownership accounts indicates your consent for U.S. Bank to share the information on your 1099s with your joint owners.
  • You’ll no longer have access to that account’s online tax documents received prior to cancelation. We recommend that you save your online tax documents to your computer before closing your account. Any future 1099s for that account will be mailed to you. If you later re-enroll for online tax documents, you’ll only have access to online 1099s from the second enrollment date forward, not from the prior enrollment.
  • No, you'll no longer receive paper tax documents unless you specifically request a paper copy or a duplicate 1099 is sent. Corrected 1099s from years prior to the year you go paperless will still be delivered by mail. For example, if you signed up for online tax documents in July 2015, corrected 1099s for 2015 would be delivered online, but corrected 1099s for 2014 would be sent by mail. You’ll continue to receive a paper 1099 for any account that is not enrolled in or eligible for online tax documents.
  • Yes, you can always request a paper tax document if needed by calling 800-US BANKS (800-872-2657), TDD 800-865-5065. No fee will be charged.
  • To begin receiving paper tax documents again, do the following:

    • Under My Accounts, select My Documents and then select Paperless Preferences.
    • On the right side of the page you’ll see "To receive paper tax documents for your banking accounts, email us." Select email us and fill out the email form.
    • Under Account or Service, select an account number.
    • Under Subject, select Stop e1099s.
    • Under Comments, make sure to include the last 4 digits of each account number for which you want to stop receiving online tax documents.
    • You’ll see a confirmation screen telling you that your email was received, followed by a letter through U.S. mail confirming your change. This change will be effective for new, corrected, or duplicate tax documents.

If you experience any problems with this process, please call 800-US BANKS (800-872-2657), TDD 800-865-5065

  • Possibly. Sometimes stock or fund issuers notify us that they will reclassify their income later than the mailing dates above. To avoid correcting your tax forms, the IRS allows us to wait for those adjustments and delay mailing those forms until March. In addition, please allow 2 weeks from the dates above for the mail to be processed by the U.S. Postal Service.
  • Possibly. Despite our diligence, there are instances when we receive revised tax information from third parties after we mailed your tax forms to you. The IRS has acknowledged this as an issue in the financial industry. In response, it requires a corrected return only if a single error causes a correction of reportable amounts of $100 or more, or reported tax withheld of $25 or more. If we become aware of any revision that affects your tax information, we will follow the IRS guidelines for corrected returns accordingly.
  • Unfortunately, at this time we cannot provide a file (.TXF or .OFX) nor a direct login link for TurboTax (or similar tax software products). However, this is being reviewed for future development.
  • Yes.  Online availability enables joint owners to share tax information.
